Adiós bien amado by Julio Morales
In this work the composer highlights the poem written by Gabriela Martínez describing the loss of her beloved one. Throughout the piece the composer makes the music subservient to the text so the listener can relate to its message. Through images of hope and healing the composer interlocks each musical phrase and brings the poem’s meaning to life.

como el comienzo de nuestro amor.
El viento cruzando inertes montañas,

Las frutas que nacen del árbol

Trees overflowing with strawberries
as the beginning of our love.
The wind crossing inert mountains,
provoking the rumor of the last kiss.
The fruits born from the tree
are your moles that I cannot reach.
Your back is this arid land
what a trait to sow my kisses
Here flowers also bloom,
here hands are also warmed,
alive are our dead who
they dance in the flowers, remembered.

The Mexican poet Gabriela Rodríguez describes the poem as follows:
“Adiós bien amado, originally titled Poema sencillo (Simple Poem), is an invocation reminiscing our most profound love on earth which embraces our joys and sorrows. Poema sencillo is inspired by Guadalupe Victoria, my mother’s original town and the place where I tried to heal the loss of my beloved one; finding him on the fields, the flowers, the mountains, and the animals that live there. Poema sencillo reminds us of a timeless, grateful, and liberating love that remains as a beautiful memory.”
Composer
Julio Morales is a choral conductor, composer, arranger, pianist and music educator from Tampico, Tamaulipas, Mexico. His current commitments include serving as choral director in the Community Choir Program of the Veracruz Institute of Culture, Mexico, representative in the World Choir Council of Interkultur, composer-in-residence of the Cantaré Project in Chicago, IL, as well as singer with the vocal ensemble Exigence, in Detroit, MI, USA. He currently holds a master’s degree in Composition from The Tito Puente University and is studying the Master's Degree in Education and Teaching at the UTEL University.
